About Us
Why we do Mathiphy?
Our Mission:
To make learning Math & science, an engaging and exciting experience for high school students. We will transform kids into learned individuals, by strengthening their understanding, retention and application of fundamentals
To provide the right ways and means for teachers to create 'aha' moments for their students. We will provide passionate teachers, an opportunity to become the most important entity shaping students' lives - the 'guru'
Our Vision: To create our first cohort of 1000 'awakened' students and 20 'architect' teachers by 2023. We will scale to a 100 more teachers by 2025
Who are we?
We are a bunch of passionate entrepreneurs in pursuit of proliferating knowledge and its implementation, who take pleasure in spreading the joy of discovery to high school students
Why we do what we do?
The passing on of knowledge is key. Most species pass on instincts and evolve with lessons learnt from their past
Eg1. Cats jump on seeing cucumbers thinking they are snakes even if a cat has never seen a snake before
Eg2. Persistence of vision: We perceive stars and star light because of millions of years of evolution of the brain. If eyelids are considered analogous to the shutter of a camera, every time we blink, we disrupt the flow of the scene into our eyes and would saturate our visual sense organs (eyes) i.e sensors in a camera. If we are viewing galaxies, other celestial objects in pitch dark areas, when we blink our eyes, our brain keeps the map of what we see and still brings it up the way it was perceived before the blink of the eyelid and we still see the objects. This doesn't work that way in a camera or even telescopes that way. The shutter must be kept open and the camera must track the sky to keep aim at the point of interest
According to the Vedas, humans have the potential to pass on more than instincts through generations- thoughts, intelligence and knowledge by documenting and re-interpreting them
As we head into the future, the body of knowledge we need to pass on to the next generation - the fundamentals children are required to know will become so huge that the risk of children skipping them is very real (much like how we use computers without understanding how much of digital fundamentals have gone into it, taking it for granted). The expectations from a child is to keep up with the current level of understanding & progress, within a very short time. The only way children are be able to succeed in this world is by skimming. Hence the future generations will become shallower.
This issue is already manifesting in the current times, as we find many think tanks and scientists rely on thumb rules or software programs which are black boxes. As a society, basic questioning ability and tolerance to questioning, critical thinking is lost. The world will be a much better place with people who
1. accept their shortcomings
2. are willing to learn and
3. are capable of learning.
All these need to be cultivated at a young age. The openness to listen to a critique and a view point is something that can help substantially in improving one's thoughts, skill and knowledge
Documenting and organizing knowledge is super important. The mission of some companies such as Google etc., is to organize information of the world. Knowledge and information are different. Eg. Documenting information is like how we can store musical notes or songs. That doesn't make one a composer of music. To compose music, one has to clearly know the usage, utility and the desired effect in order to make a song. A playlist can be made with songs but creation of music that is pleasing to listen to, comes from knowledge and by extension becomes a skill.
True knowledge is power and is a responsibility for the whole human race to take forward. It is what we have evolved to be and Mathiphy intends being an enabler.
True transfer of knowledge comes when we implement all the concepts we know in real life scenario or even to identify where they really apply. This is what takes mankind forward
